Artist Statement

Photography is a therapy for me. Taking pictures, for me, gives me a release from the things I don't talk about. In terms of society, I am probably an introvert. However, I strive to create very extroverted imagery for myself and for the viewer. My main goal is to create art that makes the viewer feel, whether or not the subject is obvious or not. Of course, I have my own intentions for the photographs; my own inspirations and feelings. However, I don't feel its important for the viewer to get the exact same feelings. I don't want my art to tell a story. I would rather have it allow the viewer to imagine a place the imagery puts them, and how they can relate to these places.

  1. Just a quick couple of comments that may help:
Try combining your first two sentences. It makes it more "active" plus you use "for me" twice in such short a time span. I think you have a good skeleton but you need to pad it. Not superficially mind you, just put some meat on the bones. What types of imagery do you like to portray? Why is it important for the viewer to get something else from your work than what you get from your work? The way you have it written in the end you say that you don't want to tell a story...do you work in serial or sequence?....You would rather allow the viewer to imagine a place that the imagery puts them.....inside your photos or inside their heads? One seems like there wouldn't be much found in the photo therefore the viewer is forced to imagine things and the other would be that there is so much enviroment within the photo the viewer can easily envison themselves inside it-free to explore. And this is you "and how they can relate to these places" part. If you can be more specific about the type of work you are persuing or like to make this can clue the reader into what they are going to or have already seen. But I do understand what your getting at. You just need the "who, what where and why's." You don't really have to have all of them. Just consider what answers you come up with when asking these questions.
